Background of the Study
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is essential for medical practitioners to stay updated with the latest advancements in healthcare, improve their skills, and enhance patient care (World Health Organization [WHO], 2024). Many countries, including Nigeria, have implemented CPD policies that require medical professionals to undergo periodic training, workshops, and certification programs (Federal Ministry of Health, 2024).
In Kaduna State, CPD policies are designed to ensure that medical practitioners remain competent and adaptable to new medical technologies and treatment methods. However, challenges such as funding constraints, lack of access to training opportunities, and resistance to change among some practitioners have affected the effectiveness of CPD programs (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2024).
This study examines the impact of CPD policies on medical practitioners in Kaduna State, assessing their effectiveness, challenges, and potential improvements.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the existence of CPD policies in Nigeria, many medical practitioners in Kaduna State struggle to participate in professional development programs due to financial limitations, inadequate training facilities, and time constraints (Bello & Yusuf, 2023). The inconsistent implementation of CPD requirements also raises concerns about the competence levels of healthcare professionals in the state (Ogunbanjo & Salami, 2024).
Without proper CPD participation, medical practitioners may lack the necessary skills to handle emerging health challenges, reducing the quality of healthcare service delivery. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of CPD policies on medical practitioners in Kaduna State and identify strategies for improving their implementation.
